Alors que la foule est calme et que rien ne le laisse présager, la police passe à l’attaque : coups de matraques, mamans et enfants gazé.e.s et visé.e.s au canon à eau, arrestations au faciès dans les transports en commun, camarades gravement blessé.e.s et transporté.e.s à l’hôpital, racisme et insultes, courses poursuites etc. W. est prise dans la tourmente avec ses 2 enfants…

« I am writing to you today to complain about the events of yesterday, April 8 2025. During a protest in front of the Israeli Embassy the group started marching into the street and chanting, onto chaussée de Waterloo A few minutes later we were confronted with a heavy police presence that blocked roads and the path of the march. The crowd consisted of men and women, old and young. There were children as young as 4 that I saw, and even babies in strollers. The crowd started peaceful. Our paths were blocked!

They used pepperspray on a few that stood in the front of the march. The spray spread out onto most everyone in the area. I could not return to my car because of police baraccades. I stood on the sidewalk, not in the street and was hit with the watercannons and later teargas cannister hit my leg. I was not in the street, I was not crossing any barracades. We have a right to protest any injustice. What is happening to Palestine is something that affects us all, because if this can happen to them it will eventually happen to us all, all over the world!

All of us suffered from the pepperspray, and later being sprayed by the watercannons and finally the extremely painful effects of the teargas. Thanks to helpful protestors my children and I were helped in being able to breathe and see without the painful affects of the gas. Until today we all still have sore throats, coughing and painful eyes. My children are scared and angry that the country they were born in and grew up in would do such violent actions towards their own people.

We were all forced to go down a small street Av. de la Clairière and followed by marching riot police and large water cannons and police trucks. My children and I stayed in the Woodpecker park, until they passed. Giving my youngest of 11, a moment to calm down, he had his first severe panic. After a period of calm, and the police continued to follow the protestors. My oldest child came to the protest to try to get to us and help myself and his siblings and was accosted and threaten by the police.

I was approached by another protestor that explained that these events were getting worse. Each time they are being targeted and attacked with greater force. Why is that? Because it’s near the Israeli embassy? Not one other protest that we attended ever had such a response. Not one! Following all that drama, I walked back to my car, along with my children where we were followed and stopped by the police. We were walking. I showed them my vehicle and they stayed and waited until we drove away.

I am truly disgusted. This is insane. There was no warning, there were no threats. The embassy was never attacked, we were marching and chanting in the street. There were clearly children and women and elderly in the group. I have pictures and videos as well. »
